BMW Art Cars

Since the 1970s, the German auto manufacturer BMW has asked select artists to paint/design their automobiles- including Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. The latest of the artists that have been able to participate in this art-meets-auto tradition is Jeff Koons. Koons just unveiled his design concept for the car that will go on to the annual 24-hour endurance race at Le Mans, France.

Wonderland Award//Lewis Carroll Portrait

Every year the USC Libraries hold a contest in order to promote the use of their Lewis Carroll/ Alice in Wonderland special collection. Here's a quick little video I whipped up of the later progress of a painting I made of Lewis Carroll for USC's Wonderland Award Contest. I've known for a while what I was going to make, I just don't know why I kept putting it off. I started painting it Monday and finished it this morning. The contest itself is fantastic and if you're a USC student, I would encourage you to participate. More details on the contest can be found here. I have yet to document the painting, so this low quality isight video will have to do for now.

Walt Peregoy

Walt Peregoy was a background painter and color stylist at Walt Disney Productions in the 1950's and 60's. He worked as lead background painter on Sleeping Beauty (1959) and was the color stylist for One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961).

Peregoy's innovative use of color and strong designs are still amazingly fresh, even fifty years later.

michael alan: draw-a-thon

Michael Alan, Brooklyn based artist, started doing these insane participatory art exhibits around New York. Draw-a-thon's consist of finding a space, inviting tons of people to said space, creating living sculptures amongst everyone and then drawing,

drawing,

and drawing more.

Crayons in Fine Art

I don't remember how I first came upon this artist's work, but it's simply amazing. Christian Faur makes images using crayons. Wait, let me rephrase that, Christian Faur makes gorgeous images by placing crayons next to each other. His use of color is brilliant. You can check his stuff out on his website here.



Another artist that has incorporated crayons into his work is Cy Twombly. He mostly produced these paintings during the late 1960s and apart from crayons used pencils and household paint to draw/paint on large tan canvases.
