In anticipation of coachella I'd like to share some videos by bands who will be performing Friday, April 16th.

Vampire Weekend
Fever Ray

With Coachella slowly coming upon us, I can't help but get put in the spirit of all things psychedelic, youthful, and mischievous. With bands like MGMT making the kaleidoscopic culture quite the trend, sometimes I get a bit discouraged with the extent we interpret psychedelic music, or art, or just the idea in general.
This is the video for St. Vincent's "Laughing with a Mouth of Blood."
This month saw the premiere of "I'm Here," a short film written and directed by Spike Jonze for Absolut vodka. Although it was made for Absolut, there are no shots of the product in the film, which I really appreciated. I loved it, but considering I'm part of the company's target audience, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Robots, indie music, British accents, young love, L.A., AND Spike Jonze? Looks like someone did their research. You can watch the entire thing here: http://www.imheremovie.com/.
I'm here is a 30-minute love story about the relationship between two robots living in L.A. The film is written and directed by Spike Jonze. Andrew Garfield and Siena Guillory are in the lead roles, and the soundtrack includes original music by Sam Spiegel and original songs by L.A. based art musician Aska Matsumiya and other emerging musicians.

Michael Alan, Brooklyn based artist, started doing these insane participatory art exhibits around New York. Draw-a-thon's consist of finding a space, inviting tons of people to said space, creating living sculptures amongst everyone and then drawing,
drawing,
and drawing more.
BRING DRAW-A-THONS TO LA!
Amazing short film that went viral in December. The director has since been signed on to a 30 million dollar feature.
Figures.

Wait, did everyone know that there are two separate music videos for "Pursuit of Happiness?"
I've seen the one with all the champagne, fly fellas, and ladies, but I had not seen the one made by the production company, Megaforce, and in all honesty the latter is the better, or at least appeals to my sensibilities more.
Check it out.
The official one that was made after:
I don't remember how I first came upon this artist's work, but it's simply amazing. Christian Faur makes images using crayons. Wait, let me rephrase that, Christian Faur makes gorgeous images by placing crayons next to each other. His use of color is brilliant. You can check his stuff out on his website here.
Another artist that has incorporated crayons into his work is Cy Twombly. He mostly produced these paintings during the late 1960s and apart from crayons used pencils and household paint to draw/paint on large tan canvases.
Turns out Parker/Stone were students of experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage. He even has a part in a production they made while studying at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Cannibal! The Musical. Above is a still from Brakhage's Night Music, although perhaps his most famous short film is Mothlight.
